
Late Power-Play Goal Dooms Wild

SOLDOTNA, Alaska - Zack Zulkanycz scored a go-ahead power-playgoal with 11 seconds remaining in regulation Saturday to send the Kenai RiverBrown Bears to a 4-2 victory over the Wenatchee Wild at the Soldotna SportsCenter in Soldotna, Alaska.
The Wild trailed the Brown Bears 2-1 entering the thirdperiod, but tied up the contest with 7:33 left in regulation when Nicholas Kuchera (Eagan, Minn.) knockedin a man-advantage goal during the front end of a double minor. Trace Redmond (McKinney, Texas)assisted.
The game appeared to be headed for overtime until Zulkanyczscored the game-winner with 11 seconds left in the final frame. Jacob Davidsonadded an empty-netter for the Brown Bears with a second left in regulation forthe 4-2 final. Conor Deal earned the lone assist.
"Our kids played their butts off tonight," said WenatcheeWild head coach Bliss Littler. "Weneed to get home, rest up, get healthy and regroup."
Zac Lazzaro staked the Brown Bears to an early 1-0 lead Saturday2:55 into the first period when he scored on a slap shot from the left wingcircle. Mikhail Bushinski and Brad Duwe picked up the assists.
Robert Nichols(Dallas, Texas) kept it a 1-goal game with roughly five minutes left in thesecond period when he denied Alex Jackstadt 1-on-1 with his left pad. The Wild wenton to tie up the game three minutes later when Max McHugh (Edgewood, Wash.) scored on a quick shot from the sloton a deft pass from Chris Kerr(Penticton, British Columbia). ChrisJones (Normandy Park, Wash.) also assisted.
The game remained tied for less than a minute when AlecButcher scored on a shot from the slot with 1:08 left in the second period togive the Brown Bears a 2-1 edge heading into the third period. Jackstadt pickedup the only assist on Butcher's goal.
Nichols made 31 saves on 34 shots in the loss while EvanMcCarthy saved 31 of the 33 shots he faced to earn the win for the Brown Bears.The Wild scored one power-play goal on six opportunities while the Brown Bearswent 1-for-3 on their man-advantage chances.
The Wild (36-14-6) will be back in action this Friday andSaturday (March 22-23) when they host the Fresno Monsters. It will be the lasthome series of the regular season. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:05p.m.
