Jamestown Avenges Loss From Yesterday

Kalamazoo, MI- The Jamestown Ironmen were leap frogged by the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings for second place in the North Division yesterday, but they bounced back with a 4-2 win to regain possession of the second spot by a score of 4-2 on Sunday at Wings Stadium.

The first frame featured a number of scoring chances for both teams, as Kalamazoo was the only team that was able to capitalize. Danny Hamburg was able to slap home a loose puck left on the doorstep after a save made by Joe Ballmer. The goal for Hamburg was his 15th of the season, and gave the Jr. K-Wings a 1-0 lead to take into the first intermission.

The second period had a different feel, as defense reigned supreme for the first 16:44. At that point, Kalamazoo's Kyle Gattelaro was able to ounce on an open puck in front of the Jamestown goal. Gattelaro swept a backhander along the ice and into the goal. It was his 13th goal of the season and gave Kalamazoo a 2-0 lead.

Just 1:16 after the tally that gave Kalamazoo a two-goal lead, the Ironmen were able to claw to within one. Tyler Dunagan was able to crash the goal and knock home is 21st of the season by beating Alex Okicki with a backhander.

Only 26 seconds had elapsed before the Ironmen were able to draw even with their second unanswered goal in less than a half-minute. This time it was leading scorer Luc Gerdes forcing a turnover and beating Okicki for his team high 26th of the campaign.

7:12 into the third period, with Kalamazoo on a power play, Joe Mottiqua stole the puck and carried into the Kalamazoo end. He dropped a pass off for Elliot Tisdale, who was able to take a quick wrister that beat Okicki to give Jamestown a 3-2 lead.

With 11 seconds remaining, Gerdes would cap off the Jamestown victory with an empty netter, his 27th of the season.

The Jr. K-Wings will take the ice again on Saturday, March 23rd, as they take on the Johnstown Tomahawks in the first of two consecutive games. The puck is set to drop from the Borgess Health Rink inside Wings West at 2:00 p.m.
