Walla Walla Sweets News Release

Walla Walla, Wa- Just a day after the Walla Walla Sweets came back to win an offensive shootout, it was the Klamath Falls Gems who played catch up and tied the series at a one a piece in a 4-3 win. The Sweets (7-7) saw their two run lead slip out of their grasp in the top half of the ninth inning and their attempt at a tie was turned away by Riley Moore of the Gems (3-11).

The scoring started out with a run in the second for the Sweets as Juan Gamez came around to score from second on an error by Gems' first baseman Reid Penney. The Sweets then increased their lead to 2-0 in the sixth with an RBI single by Gamez to score Clayton Ayers. Mickey Walker for the Gems was brilliant through eight innings and ended up with the win.

It seemed like the game was all over going into the ninth. After five scoreless relief innings from Travis Ulvestad, the Sweets turned to Jarred Zill for the five out save for his first appearance. In the top of the ninth, the Gems started off with a lead-off home run by Penney to put Klamath Falls within a run.

A couple of batters later, with a runner on, pinch-hitter Josh Overstreet launched a two-run, go-ahead blast over the left field wall. With the score then 3-2 Gems, Klamath Falls added another run on a sacrifice fly by Cody Poznanski that scored Patrick McClure from third to make it 4-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Sweets refused to go down without a fight. They loaded the bases with no one out, but were only able to push across one run and ended up leaving the bases loaded.

The rubber match of this series will take place tomorrow at Borleski Stadium. First pitch is slated for 5:05 and tickets are still available. For more information, visit wallawallasweets.com/tickets.
