Kelowna Falcons News Release
The Kelowna Falcons won their first ever series against the Yakima Valley Pippins with a 5-0 win on Sunday in the rubber match at Yakima County Stadium.
The Falcons struck first in the opening inning, as an error allowed Lane Lacrone to score on a Ben Gamba infield single.
The two teams would go scoreless through the next 4 plus innings before the Falcons extended their lead to 4-0 in the 6th. Andre Jackson had an RBI double before Vinny Esposito scored a pair with a bases loaded single to aid starter Brady Miller.
Miller would go six strong for Kelowna, allowing 5 hits and striking out 1. He stranded 8 Pippins runners on base in the outing.
The Falcons added a run to their lead in the 8th inning on a SAC FLY from Kyle Plantier. The run was set up by a Max Carter double down the line to put two runners in scoring position.
Michael Koval came on in relief in the 7th inning and would work 3 shutout innings to complete the save, allowing 2 hits and striking out 3.
With the win, the Falcons move a half game ahead of the Pippins in the WCL East Standings, playing 3 less games.
Kelowna returns to Elks Stadium Monday - Wednesday with a 3-game set against the Bellingham Bells. Wednesday night is Firefighter Night with face painting, a bouncy castle and post-game fireworks. All Ticket Sales revenue goes to the firefighters Burn Fund.
