Lancaster JetHawks News Release
Clay Calfee and Matt Wallach hit back-to-back home runs off JetHawks reliever Brian Wabick in the top of the ninth to give Inland Empire an 8-6 victory over Lancaster at Clear Channel Stadium Tuesday. The 66ers jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Alfredo Silverio smacked a home run off Ross Seaton in the top of the first.
Lancaster immediately answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame. After Andy Simunic drew a one-out walk and Freddy Parejo singled, Lee Cruz crushed a three-run home run off 66ers starter Jon Michael Redding.
Staked to a 3-1 lead, Seaton settled down and got into a rhythm on the mound. He tossed three scoreless innings and the JetHawks tacked on two more runs in the third inning, which extended their lead to 5-1.
But the 66ers struck back by scoring a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning to reduced Lancaster's lead to 5-4. Inland Empire scored two more runs in the eighth, one of which was the result of a wild pitch on a intentional walk by JetHawks reliever Kyle Godfrey.
Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the eighth, Cruz belted a solo home run to tie the game at 6-6. But the 66ers reclaimed the lead on the strength of the ninth inning homers by Calfee and Wallach.
Wabick (2-3) was charged with the loss for Lancaster. Matt Sartor (1-1) picked up the win for Inland Empire. The JetHawks fell to 5-8 in the second half and 28-54. Inland Empire improved to 6-7 and 32-51 overall.
The JetHawks will take on Rancho Cucamonga in the opener of a three-game series at Clear Channel Stadium Wednesday. Lancaster will start lefty Dallas Keuchel (4-6, 3.52 ERA). Rancho Cucamonga is expected to counter with RHP Orangel Arenas (2-1, 6.25 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. Tune in for all the live action beginning with the JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m. on www.jethawks.com/csn and News Talk 1380-AM.
