EDENTON, NC - Petersburg's (19-22, 5-8) Ryan Hickey hit a go ahead solo blast in the top of the eighth inning to complete the come from behind victory for the Generals 7-6 over the Steamers (27-12, 9-4) on Sunday at Historic Hicks Field.

The game was tied 6-6 in the top of the eighth inning with Ryan Hickey coming to the plate as a pinch hitter. Hickey took a 2-0 fastball from lefty Eddie Perkins (Tusculum College) and hit it over the high wall in left field for a 7-6 Generals lead. It was Hickey's first home run of the season and the eventual winning run.

A back and forth game the whole way began with Petersburg taking an early 3-0 lead against Kevin Bibler (University of Southern Polytechnic State University) and the Steamers. Bibler, in the top of the third relinquished four singles and Petersburg added two stolen bases, including one of home plate by Will Ward to score three times in the inning.

Edenton, who stranded the bases loaded in three different innings, scored five times in the bottom of the third to claim their first lead at 5-3. Madison Beaird (Arkansas Tech University) reached on an error with one out to begin the inning. Wes Meadows (Otterbein University) singled Beaird to third and Michael Camporeale (University of Washington) hit a fielder's choice. An error on the play allowed Meadows to reach safely with Beaird scoring. Koby Kraemer (Indiana State University) singled to load the bases and Blaise Fernandez (George Mason University) took an RBI walk to score Meadows. Adam Kirsch (Florida International University) singled home Camporeale and DJ Johnson (Mercer University) hit a two-run single to cap the scoring for the inning.

Petersburg made it 5-4 when Mike Revell hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning.

Petersburg scored two more times in the top of the sixth off Bibler on back-to-back RBI singles by Dillon Vitale and Will Ward to give the Generals the 6-5 lead.

Kraemer homered in the bottom of the seventh off J.T Wauford to tie the game at 6-6 and set up the tie game in the eighth inning. Kraemer had a three hit night and the home run was his fifth of the season and it pushes the Steamers season total to 35, which leads the CPL.

Perkins took the loss for relinquishing the home run in the eighth, he fell to 0-2 while Ryan Moore earned the victory for his 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. He improved to 4-2 on the season.

The 7-6 loss to the Generals snapped an eight game home winning streak dating back to an 8-5 loss to Wilson on June 23rd. Meadows, with his three hit night, pushed his hitting streak to eight games with 16 hits over that span. Camporeale picked up an RBI in the loss and increased his CPL leading total to 30 on the season.

The Edenton Steamers are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
