Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA - Despite a strong finish to the game, the Ottawa 67's dropped a 6-2 decision to the Peterborough Petes in their second contest in two days.
The 67's outshot the Petes 13-6 in the third period, and 31-28 in the game.
Ottawa associate coach Mike Eastwood said the team out-executed by Peterborough early in the game.
"There's ups and downs in games - we talk about it all the time - it's about how you respond to it," Eastwood said. "We need to learn to deal with it in a more positive manner, especially on home ice."
Tyler Rollo opened the scoring for the Petes, deking to his backhand around Ottawa starter Olivier Lafreniere. That made the score 1-0, then Zach Gallant put Peterborough up by two with a low shot that trickled through Lafreniere's five hole.
Peterborough wouldn't stop there. Just 14 seconds into the second, the Petes struck again. Gallant tipped home his second of the game off a blast from the point by Brandon Prophet.
With the score at 4-0 Peterborough, the 67's found some life. Tye Felahber continued his roll since joining the barberpoles, scoring his eighth goal in 14 games as a 67. The goal came off a nifty pass from Patrick White in the right corner.
The power play struck again for the Petes before the end of the second. Matthew Timms restored the Peterborough four-goal lead with a one-timer from the left point that beat Lefreniere on the glove side.
Ottawa got a highlight, when Sam Bitten potted his first career OHL goal in the third. He took a feed from David Pearce and put it past the outstretched pad of Peterborough starter Scott Smith.
Eastwood said Bitten is doing all the right things early in his major junior career.
"He's provided some energy and some gump, and he's worked his butt off," said the former NHLer. "That line (of Bitten, David Pearce and Nolan Gardiner) has been very effective for us lately."
Ottawa will now travel for the next while and not return to The Arena at TD Place until December 30. They head to North Bay on December 15 to face the Battalion.
