Late Error Lifts Edinburg

EDINBURG-- The Edinburg Roadrunners(38-37) kept their playoff hopes alive with a dramatic come from behind win as Edinburg rallied in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (34-41) Friday night at Edinburg Baseball stadium.

Edinburg grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Travis Clark scored on an infield single as Dan Coury legged out the infield single.

RGV took a two run lead in the top of the fourth inning, Hector Garcia got aboard on a one out single, Scott Lacey later reached first on an infield single.

With two outs, Chad Bunting scored Garcia and Lacey on a two run double giving the Wings a 2-1 lead.

Edinburg answered right back in the bottom half of the fifth, Jordan Eiter and Michael Haynes scored on a Tim Maitland RBI double giving Edinburg a 3-2 lead.

RGV used a strong seventh inning. trailing 4-2, the Wings tagged four runs on five hits, regaining the lead 6-4.

Edinburg cut the lead to one in the bottom of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly from Tim Battle scoring Trevor Whyte from third making it 6-5.

The Roadrunners rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning, Septimo led off the inning with a single one batter later Maitland reached first on an error from Cody Collins on third.

The error proved costly with runners on second and third Derrick Pyles hit a routine fly ball into center field, where Haroki Itakura failed to make the final out, as the ball went in and out of his glove scoring Septimo and Maitland.

Edinburg scored two runs on the error to steal game three versus the Wings with a 7-6 win.

The series finale is set for Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
