Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, WASH- The Walla Walla Sweets (14-10) could not complete the sweep of the Bend Elks (10-14), falling by a score of 7-1.
Walla Walla, which relied on pitching over the last nine games to win, could not hold down the Bend offense in this one. The Sweets used six pitchers in the loss.
Starter Chris Murphy (San Diego) was on a 60-pitch limit and only threw four innings, but struck out eight while giving up just one run. He left with a 1-1 tie in the game after an RBI double by Hunter Villanueva (Fresno Pacific) in the fourth.
The Elks put up a run in the third, four in the seventh and two more in the ninth inning. They only had six hits, but the Sweets walked seven batters.
The Sweets took the overall series two games to one and they are still 8-2 in their last 10 games.
Walla Walla will continue their home stand tomorrow when they welcome in the Yakima Valley Pippins. Bobby Ay (Cal Poly), the WCL Pitcher of the Week last week, will take the mound for Walla Walla.
