This past week WNBA founder and former NBA Commissioner David Stern passed away at the age of 77, the Premier Lacrosse League announced newest team will be called the Waterdogs and the National Women's Hockey League Boston Pride established a new record by starting the season 17-0. Highlights from this week are from Women's National Basketball Association, NBA G League, National Basketball League of Canada, American Hockey League, Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, National Lacrosse League, Premier Lacrosse League and the XFL.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert released the following statement:
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of NBA Commissioner Emeritus David Stern. The WNBA will be forever grateful for his exemplary leadership and vision that led to the founding of our league. His steadfast commitment to women's sports was ahead of its time and has provided countless opportunities for women and young girls who aspire to play basketball. He will be missed."

The American Hockey League announced the playing rosters for the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Ontario International Airport, to be held January 26-27 in Ontario, Calif. The 2020 rosters feature 33 first-time AHL All-Stars and 12 former first- or second-round draft choices.
Goalie Mikhail Berdin battled for the puck behind the net. and Seth Griffith finished the play in overtime to give the Manitoba Moose a victory.
Western Hockey League

With a decisive 7-2 victory over the Buffalo Beauts on, the Boston Pride established a new NWHL record by starting a season 17-0. The previous mark of 16-0 was set in the 2016-17 season.

The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced that Andy Copelan will become the coach of Waterdogs LC, the League's expansion club set to debut for the 2020 season. Copelan most recently served as Head Coach of the Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse Team for eleven years (2008-2019).

Canadian Football League
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Tuesday the football club has re-signed American quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. Masoli, 31, started just six games in 2019 for the Tiger-Cats after suffering a season-ending injury July 26 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Carolina Cobras announce the signing of QB Grant Russell for the 2020 season. Last season he signed with the Columbus Destroyers of the AFL and for the expansion franchise he was a highlight, going 222-369 for 2,614 yards and 36 TDs passing, as well as having six more TDs rushing.

United Soccer League Championship
Saint Louis FC announced the appointment of Steve Trittschuh as the club's new head coach for the 2020 USL Championship season. Trittschuh joins Saint Louis FC after managing Colorado Switchbacks FC during the 2015-2019 seasons.
United Soccer League One
FC Tucson announced that former FC Tucson assistant coach John Galas has been named the Head Coach of FC Tucson effective immediately. Galas becomes the club's fifth-ever Head Coach and the second Head Coach in the team's professional era in USL League One.
