Las Vegas Locomotives Training Camp Notes - Wednesday, September 7

September 7, 2011 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Las Vegas Locomotives News Release

With cuts looming, the Las Vegas Locomotives returned to the practice field Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 8 a.m. The 70 players the Locos currently have on the roster know that the team will soon be narrowed down to just 51 men. That made for an intense practice in which every player was trying to prove his worth to Head Coach Jim Fassel.

Fassel observed each position's unit drills in the first part of the morning before the team moved on to group drills. In team drills, the offense rebounded from a rough practice yesterday and looked much sharper overall. New wide receivers Cameron Colvin and Eric Peterman continued to impress, making several quality grabs throughout the day. Tight end Xavier Lee also made his case for a roster spot with several nice catches, including one deep pass that went for a touchdown.

The Locos also welcomed the return of veteran Locos running back De De Dorsey for his first practice of the 2011 season. Dorsey reported late to Locos camp because he had been working to make an NFL roster. While a shot in the NFL didn't come to fruition, Dorsey is happy to be back in Las Vegas.

"I'm glad to be back," commented Dorsey after practice. "This is a great organization from top to bottom. I'm happy to be here and will do anything I can do to help this team get the three-peat this season. That's the goal."

Defensively, safety Lewis Baker was again a standout, making several nice plays on the ball and showing good reaction time during an interception on a tipped ball.

The Locos will return to the practice field again Thursday, Sept. 8 at 8 a.m.
