Las Vegas Desert Dogs News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Las Vegas Desert Dogs organization announced today it will host its inaugural "Tucker Out Lymphoma Night" game on Saturday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Michelob ULTRA Arena against the Rochester Knigthawks in an effort to raise awareness and donations for organizations that benefit childhood cancer causes. Tickets for the game are available at LasVegasDesertDogs.com.
The game is played in honor of Tucker Williams, son of head coach and general manager Shawn Williams, who passed away from Burkitt's Lymphoma in December 2014. In response to Tucker's diagnosis while Shawn was playing for the Buffalo Bandits, the franchise and city of Buffalo rallied around Tucker and the Williams family hosting the first-ever Tucker Out Lymphoma Night on April 5, 2014. The annual game has continued in Buffalo ever since and has raised over $150,000 for pediatric cancer care in Tucker's honor since that first night.
"Our lacrosse family is honored to continue the Tucker Out Lymphoma Night tradition in Las Vegas," said Williams. "We want to do our part as a team to continue to raise awareness for childhood cancer and help other families who have children battling this disease. To have the opportunity to host this inaugural game in Vegas against the Rochester Knighthawks is truly special. As emotional as these games always are playing and coaching in Tucker's memory, I'm looking forward to sharing this night with our fans. Las Vegas has embraced us with open arms since we arrived, and I know they will embrace Tucker Out Lymphoma Night as well."
The Desert Dogs will wear specialty Tucker Out Lymphoma jerseys during the game, which are now available for auction via DASH. Tucker is remembered for his "Braver than Brave" spirit in his fight against lymphoma, with the original superhero logo designed by a member of the extended Williams family featured on the front crest of the jerseys. The official color of lymphoma awareness, lime green, is featured prominently on the jersey.
Fans can bid on their favorite Desert Dogs players' jerseys now through halftime of the game on March 25, in addition to other one-of-kind specialty items and autographed memorabilia. Las Vegas's opponent for this game, the Rochester Knighthawks, will also have jerseys available to bid on.
The opening bids for all jerseys are valued at $151.51, a tribute to Tucker's #51 lacrosse number he proudly wore.
