Las Vegas 51s Announce 2005 Schedule

LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the 2004 National League West Champion Los Angeles Dodgers, will begin their 23rd season of play against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, on Thursday, April 7. Following the eight-game road trip (April 7-14), the 51s' home opener will be on Friday, April 15 against the Sky Sox at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field. The 51s 2005 schedule was announced today by the team's President/General Manager Don Logan.

The 51s, which will begin their fifth season as the top farm club of the Dodgers, will host the Sky Sox from April 15-18 and the Salt Lake Stingers, Triple-A affiliate of the Anaheim Angels, from April 19-22, in the first home stand.

The 144-game schedule (72 home, 72 road) will once again feature many promotional nights, Dodgers and 51s giveaways and highlighted by the traditional July 3rd "Fireworks Spectacular" at Cashman Field, which featured a season-high crowd of 12,383 last season.

The 51s will host Southern Division of the Pacific Conference opponents: the Fresno Grizzlies (San Francisco Giants), the defending two-time PCL champion Sacramento River Cats (Oakland A's) and the Tucson Sidewinders (Arizona Diamondbacks) for eight games each. The 51s will also host the Northern Division for eight games each: Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Colorado Rockies), Portland Beavers (San Diego Padres), Salt Lake Stingers (Anaheim Angels) and Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners).

The Southern Division of the American Conference, comprised of the Albuquerque Isotopes (Florida Marlins), New Orleans Zephyrs (Montreal Expos), Oklahoma RedHawks (Texas Rangers) and the new member of the PCL, the Round Rock Express (Houston Astros), will visit Cashman Field for four games each.

The 51s will travel to the Northern Division opponents: Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs), Memphis Redbirds (St. Louis Cardinals), Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers) and Omaha Royals (Kansas City Royals), for four games each.

Last season, the 51s posted a 67-76 record (.469) and finished in third place in the Southern Division, 11.5 games behind the PCL champion Sacramento (79-65, .549). The 51s offense set team single-season records for most at-bats (5,036), most total bases (2,383), most extra-base hits (526) and tied for most home runs (184, with 2001 team). The Dodgers recalled a total of 14 players from the 51s during the season. Las Vegas has compiled a 296-277 (.517) record over the four seasons (2001-04) as the top farm club of the Dodgers. On Aug. 24, 2004, the 51s announced a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) with the Dodgers, which will run through the 2006 season.
