STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the re-signing of centerback Lars Eckenrode to its 2022 USL League One roster on a one-year deal, pending league and federation approval.

"Eckenrode returns to Tormenta for his fourth year because his chapter at the club has not ended," Head Coach Ian Cameron commented. "Eckenrode is an excellent box defender, he brings physicality to our backline, and has a good range of passing.

"Lars featured a lot last year early and has put in the work to prepare himself for better longevity through this season. Competition in the backline is fierce. We are excited to see him back in the Navy and Magenta."

Tormenta FC's 2021 campaign saw Eckenrode start 14 matches, playing a total of 1,248 minutes. Eckenrode's lone goal of the season came in a header during a 3-1 home win versus rivals Greenville Triumph. Defensively, the 6-foot-3 veteran recorded 43 clearances, 11 blocks and eight interceptions. Eckenrode's season was cut short in July due to a season-ending injury.

Prior to Tormenta FC, the Michigan Alumnus was selected 83rd overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC. Eckenrode previously played in 18 games with USL Championship side Toronto FC II.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to come back to Tormenta FC for year four," Eckenrode said. "We have unfinished business here in Statesboro and I cannot wait to get to work on the pitch with the boys!"

Lars joins a strong core of club returners on TFC's 2022 League One roster, with the added power of midfielder Tobias Otieno and defenders Ian Antley and Deshawon Nembhard. With player signings, kit reveals and more expected in the coming weeks, fans should download the Tormenta FC app or follow the club on social media to stay up to date.

Tormenta FC looks forward to welcoming supporters to its new 5,300-seat stadium set to open its doors in 2022. Supporters can now purchase season tickets in advance to guarantee their spot at every home match, available with 12-month payment plans. For families and new fans, the club also offers Flex Ticket packages which include ten General Admission or VIP tickets redeemable at any regular-season home match.
