Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - On Saturday, May 15, author Larry Tye, will be visiting Hank Aaron Stadium as the BayBears take on the Chattanooga Lookouts at 7:05 p.m. Mr. Tye is the author of the recently-released, New York Times Bestseller, Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend.

Mr. Tye will be autographing copies of his book during the BayBears' contest against the Lookouts and will take part in an on-field interview prior to the ballgame to talk about the writing process as he went behind-the-scenes of a true, American icon.

Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend was named one of the best books of the year by the Chicago Tribune and the Kansas City Star. It was also the winner of the Casey Award, given to the year's best baseball book.

Satchel Paige is one of five Baseball Hall of Famers that was born in Mobile and is perhaps the biggest superstar in the history of the Negro Leagues. He set a record that still stands the first time he took a major league mound as the oldest person to make his major league debut. He was 42 at the time, and he was 59 when he made his last major league appearance for the Kansas City Athletics.

The BayBears are in action on Wednesday night as they take on the Tennessee Smokies at 6:15. They return home from their 10-game road trip on Saturday, May 15 when they take on the Chattanooga Lookouts at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, which start at $5 for kids and $7 for adults, please call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
