Larks Split Final Series against Mankato

The Bismarck Larks fell to the Mankato Moondogs by a score of 5-2 on Sunday, July 21st. The Larks fell behind early but fought their way back into the game. The Larks eventually tied the contest in the fifth inning however, that was as close as they would get to keeping up with Mankato. The Moondogs have defeated the Larks 9 out of 12 times this season.
What's Next: The Bismarck Larks will continue their homestand after splitting the series with Mankato. The Larks will face off against the Duluth Huskies on July 22nd at 7:05 pm.
How it Happend: The Moondogs got off to a hot start for the second straight game by scoring in the top of the first inning. Two free bases started off the inning for the Moondogs. A single by Dayton Dooney then brought home Nick Novak for Mankato's first run of the game.
The Moondogs then doubled their lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning on a single from Adan Fernandez that scored another run.
The Larks then tied it in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own. The Larks loaded the bases with two outs before Alex Peterson singled to right field driving in Brian Leonhardt and Wyatt Ulrich.
The Moondogs then answered back with a solo home run to left field with two out in the top of the sixth inning off the bat of catcher Garrett Gilbert. Gilbert's second homer of the season ended up being the difference in the game.
The Moondogs scored twice more in the 9th inning on a two-run triple from Adan Fernandez, putting his RBI total at three in the game.
In the game, three new Larks made their home debuts; starting pitcher Trevor Reynold, relief pitcher Trevor McGee and catcher Ty Hanchey. Reynolds gave up one run in one inning of work before McGee threw six solid innings out of the bullpen. McGee was the losing pitcher in the game after allowing two earned runs while throwing four scoreless frames in relief for the Larks. McGee has performed well in both of his outings this season.
Evan Glew finished the day for the Larks. He gave up two earned runs in two innings of work. The Larks head into the two-game home series against the Duluth Huskies with a 5-11 record in second half play.
