Rapid City Rush News Release

(RAPID CITY, SD) - Sixty minutes was once again not enough for these teams to decide a winner, but the Rapid City Rush and the Arizona Sundogs completed a great series of hockey in overtime. Konrad Reeder tied the game in the second, and Matt Larke was the overtime hero, scoring with 1:18 left in the extra session as the Rush won for the second night in a row over the Sundogs by a 2-1 score.

Arizona came firing out of the gate, outshooting the Rush 18-8 in the first frame, and eventually they would strike first. Kevin Baker would score his seventh goal against the Rush this season, sending home a rebound past Tim Boron with 32 seconds left in the first period to give his team a 1-0 lead. The Rush would counter 6:36 into the second period, as Konrad Reeder sent in a shot from a sharp angle to tie the game at 1-1. Both Tim Boron and Andrew Engelage would stand on their heads for their clubs, forcing overtime for a second consecutive night. Unlike last night, the Rush would not need a shootout to win the game. Matt Larke would swoop in from the bench and send home a rebound through the legs of Engelage to win the game for the Rush, sweeping Arizona out of Rapid City with a 2-1 win, their third straight.

Tim Boron earned first star honors for a second consecutive night, turning aside 39 shots for his 23rd win this season (23-10-1). Matt Larke scored for the first time since December 28th against the Missouri Mavericks, helping the Rush win just their second game in overtime this season (2-0 in OT this year). The Rush finish the season series against the Sundogs with a 7-3-0 record, winning three of those games in overtime or a shootout. The Rush are back in action next Friday as they start a "three-in-three" against their rivals, the Denver Cutthroats, with game one to be played in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
