Omaha Lancers News Release
Ralston, NE - Omaha Lancers goaltender Zackarias Skog announced that he has committed to continue his career between the pipes at American International College in 2016-2017. Skog becomes the 20th member of this year's end-of-season roster to be committed.
"It feels great," said Skog. "I'm really excited for this new challenge for me, and with their new coach. I'm also going in with a friend of mine, Hugo Reinhardt (Fargo Force), so that's exciting too."
In his only season with the Omaha Lancers, the Sweden native posted a 2.80 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in 32 games played. One of Skog's best games of the year came inside the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls on October 10. The netminder stopped 36 of 37 shots in a 4-1 victory. However, arguably Skog's biggest performance of the season came at Ralston Arena once again against Sioux Falls. He picked up a 25-save shutout of the Stampede in a 1-0 win on November 25.
"We're extremely happy for Zack. On behalf of the Omaha Lancers, we want to congratulate him on his college commitment," said Lancers head coach Brian Kaufman. "He's taken advantage of his opportunity this season and American International College will be a great fit."
Later in the season, Skog was named as one of the goaltenders to appear in the 2016 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game that was held at Ralston Arena in Omaha, NE. The 6-foot-5, 191-pound goaltender posted a 9-save effort during his appearance in net. In the final ranking on April 12, Skog was listed 28th among NHL Central Scouting North American Goaltenders and credits much of the exposure of the event to his commitment.
"The USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game helped in so many ways," Skog added. "I got a lot of eyes on me there and that was an unreal experience for me."
One of American International College's biggest victories of the season came on February 12 in a 5-4 road victory over RIT. Another notable weekend in December saw the Yellow Jackets sweep Army West Point with a pair of overtime wins at home inside the Olympia Ice Center.
"The Lancers did so much for me," Skog finished. "Just to give me that opportunity to come in as a last year guy and to believe in me. I'm so very thankful for everything and I want to thank the entire Omaha Lancers organization, my teammates, and the fans for this year. It's been a pleasure playing in Omaha."
