May 2, 2017 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, NE - One night after taking six forwards the Lancers focused on the defensive side of the puck taking nine defensemen, and three goaltenders to go along with eight forwards in Phase Two of the USHL draft.

Just like Phase One the Lancers started the Phase Two draft by taking back-to-back defensemen. The Lancers started their draft with the fourth overall pick taking Elk River High School (MN) captain Nicklaus Perbix. During his senior season the defenseman recorded 40 points (10 g, 30a).

As they did in Phase one the Lancers followed up their first two picks by taking a goaltender with the third pick, this time a second-round pick. Omaha drafted goaltender Keegan Karki, who spent the 2016-17 season with Team USA. Committed to North Dakota, Karki is a 2000 birth year.

Altogether Omaha used six of their eight picks during first six rounds on defensemen.

After taking two members of the Colorado Thunderbirds last night the Lancers added another Thunderbird to the mix taking forward Marshall Mannek.

In the seventh-round Omaha added Jesper Peltonen, brother of Lancers affiliate Aleksi, and son of former NHLer Ville. The forward spent the last few seasons playing for the Northwoods School.

Omaha also added a pair of Moorhead High School (MN) Spuds through the draft, selecting forward Cale O'Connell and defenseman Patrick Larson.

Next up for the Lancers is try-out camp June 1-4 at Ralston Arena.
