Lancers Return Home To Face Stars, Roughriders

January 13, 2010 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Omaha Lancers News Release

The Omaha Lancers return home this weekend to the Omaha Civic Auditorium following a three-game weekend road trip last week which saw the Lancers go 1-1-1 in their final three-game weekend of the season. Omaha began its busy weekend with a 5-4 win in Lincoln on Friday followed by a 5-4 loss in Des Moines on Saturday and eventually concluding with a 4-3 shootout loss in Sioux Falls on Sunday. After taking three of a possible six points on the weekend, the Lancers remain atop both the West Division and USHL standings with an overall record of 24-7-2 and 50 standings points. Now the orange and black return home after four consecutive road games and seven of its last eight overall away from the Civic. Omaha's weekend begins with an interstate clash against its arch rivals, the Lincoln Stars. Lincoln (9-19-3, 21 Pts.) enters the weekend 7th and last in the West Division and is currently in the midst of a season-long nine-game winless drought. The Stars are 0-6-3 over their last nine contests and have won just five of their last 22 games overall. That stretch includes a 5-4 loss against the Lancers in Lincoln last week in which Omaha's power play went 4-for-6 in the victory. Lincoln enters USHL action this weekend having registered the fewest total goals (73) of any team in the league. Omaha's weekend action then concludes Sunday with its first home contest of the year against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Cedar Rapids (17-14-2, 36 Pts.) currently rests 3rd in the East Division and is coming off a weekend in which it took two of three meetings against West Division competition. The Lancers have claimed each of the first two meetings in the season series with the RoughRiders with a 5-3 win in Cedar Rapids on November 28th followed by a 1-0 shutout road victory on January 3rd.

THREE LANCERS FEATURED IN NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING'S MIDTERM RANKINGS

Three current Omaha Lancers were recently featured among the 210 North American skaters listed in the National Hockey League Central Scouting's Midterm Rankings. The rankings reflect draft eligible players for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Lancers' defensemen Justin Holl and Mathieu Brisson along with forward Ryan Daugherty were among the 18 skaters currently playing in the USHL featured in the midseason list. Holl, a defenseman from Minnetonka, Minnesota, was ranked 54th overall among North American skaters while Brisson, a first-year Lancers blueliner from Longueuil, Quebec, was ranked 177th overall. Holl has played just four games for the Lancers and has not yet registered a point while Brisson has suited up for all but one of Omaha's games to this point while collecting four goals and 15 points while posting a +9 rating. Meanwhile, Daugherty, a second-year Lancers forward from Allen, Texas, was ranked 126th. Daugherty currently ranks fifth among all Lancers in scoring with 15 goals and 24 points in 30 games. He is currently second on the team with seven power play goals this year and currently paces all Lancers with 90 minutes in penalties.
