Lancers rally to defeat Cedar Rapids, 6-4

Tim Miller scored two goals and added an assist, as the Lancers rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit to defeat the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 6-4 last night at the Mid America Center.

Cedar Rapids took the early lead on first-period goals from Ted Purcell and Erik Felde. But, in the second period, Brock Bradford got the Lancers going with his 8th goal of the season, assisted by Tim Miller at 1:07. Miller quickly added to that total with his fourth goal of the season, unassisted at 1:28 to tie the game at 2-2. Brandon Naurato followed with his second goal of the year at 3:53, assisted by Nick Fanto and Ted Cook for a 3-2 Lancer lead. After Matt Vokes tied the contest up at 3-3 for Cedar Rapids, Naurato followed with his second goal of the evening and third of the year, assisted by Bradford and Corey Carlson for a 4-3 Lancer lead at 9;04. Vokes scored again for the 'Riders, unassisted, at 14:54 for a 4-4 score after two periods.

The eventual game winner came at 8:57 of the third period, when Jeff LoVecchio fed Carlson on the right side, who buried the puck into the net past Cedar Rapids goaltender Alex Stalock for a 5-4 lead. Miller punctuated the win with an empty-net goal, his fifth of the year, from Brett Motherwell at 19:32 for the final result of 6-4.

For the night, the Lancers outshot the RoughRiders 29-19. The Lancers were 1-for-6 with the power play, while Cedar Rapids went 1-for-4 with the man advantage. Both teams took eight penalties for 19 minutes. Jeff Lerg won his eighth game in goal for the Lancers (8-2-0), making 15 saves, while Stalock was tagged with the loss (4-2-0), in relief of starter Dan Tormey. Stalock made 10 saves and Tormey handled 13. Miller, Bradford, Naurato, and Kevin O'Connor were plus-three for the game.
