Lancers Netminder Lyon Named to USHL All-Rookie Team

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Lancers, in conjunction with the United States Hockey League (USHL), are pleased to announce that Alex Lyon has been named to the 2011-2012 USHL All-Rookie Team. Lyon joins forwards Taylor Cammarata (Waterloo), Austin Cangelosi (Youngstown) and Kevin Roy (Lincoln) along with defensemen Mike Matheson (Dubuque), Nick Seeler (Des Moines) and Eddie Wittchow (Waterloo) who were selected by a vote of USHL coaches and general managers.
A native of Baudette, Minnesota, Lyon led all rookie netminders and finished tied for second among all USHL goaltenders last season with 28 wins. The 6'1", 200-pound goaltender finished seventh in the league in save percentage (.910) and eighth in goals-against average (2.76) while compiling the most shutouts of any rookie netminder (four). One of the most taxed goaltenders in the league, Lyon closed the regular season third in minutes played (2761) and fourth in total saves (1287). Committed to Yale University for the 2013-2014 season, Lyon represented Omaha at the 2012 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in January.
Lyon is one of 10 players from last year's roster projected to return next season. Preparations for next year continue with the team's annual Tryout Camp at Moylan-Tranquility IcePlex beginning Thursday, June 7 and concluding Sunday, June 10.
