Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - In front of a sold out crowd of 3,668 fans on Sunday at Ralston Arena, the Lancers' 12th sellout of the season, the Omaha Lancers fell in a shootout to the Des Moines Buccaneers by a final score of 2-1. With the overtime loss, the Lancers improved to 33-9-5 overall this season and with 71 points remain alone in first place in the Western Conference and overall USHL standings, two points clear of the second-place Waterloo Black Hawks.
The Buccaneers were able to register the all-important "road goal" early on Sunday, as Michael Marnell made it 1-0 Des Moines at 5:35, with Tanner Karty and Willem Nong-Lambert collecting assists on the even-strength score. An Omaha response was quick in coming though, as Anthony Angello evened things up at 11:22, courtesy of a slick setup from Nash Worden and Jimmy Schuldt.
Despite 15 second period shots on goal and a pair of power-play chances, the Lancers could not break through in the middle stanza and entered the third still tied with the Buccaneers at one apiece. After the final frame of regulation slid by scoreless, along with a five-minute overtime period, the Lancers squared off with the Buccaneers in just the third shootout of the season for Omaha.
Despite conversions in the first two rounds for Tyler Vesel and Jake Randolph, Karty buried for Des Moines in the fourth round and Ryan Tait couldn't beat Ryan Ruck to equalize, as the Buccaneers escaped Omaha's clutches by a 2-1 final score.
Next up for the Lancers, it's a three-game Eastern Conference road swing, beginning Friday at 7:05 pm at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin vs. the Green Bay Gamblers. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
