Lancers Fall in Sioux Falls; Split Weekend
March 26, 2023 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Omaha Lancers News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD. - The Lancers faced a very quick turnaround from last night's (3/25) 4-0 victory in Waterloo to today's 4:05PM puck drop in Sioux Falls with the Stampede. And with the Stampede playing on home ice all weekend, travel fatigue was definitely a factor in today's matchup for Omaha.
The scoring got going early with Sioux Falls breaking the ice just six minutes in with a goal from Issac Gordon as he netted a feed from Chris Pelosi to take the 1-0 lead for the Stampede.
Omaha got that one back just over four minutes later with Matt Romer scoring his second goal of the season from the blue line off a play set up by Riley Rosenthal and Libor Nemec to lock the game at one goal apiece.
Sioux Falls regained their lead with a redirected shot from Clint Levens at the 13:22 mark of the period, followed by Lancers' Forward, Drew Montgomery slamming home a rebound off an Adam Cardona slapshot to send the game into the first intermission tied at two.
The Stampede managed to control the second period with three more goals coming from Alexander Rybakov, Jaksen Panzer, and Clint Levens scoring his second of the night.
Sioux Falls Netminder, Xavier Medina turned aside all ten second period shots that came his way as the Stampede carried a 5-2 lead into the final period of play.
After having the start for the night, Lancers Goaltender, Kevin Pasche was pulled after 40 minutes of play. Stopping 24 of 29 shots faced, good for a 0.828 save percentage on the night. He was replaced by Michael Hrabal for the third period.
For most of the third period, the Lancers had momentum, but Sioux Falls added to their lead.
6:51 into the period, the Stampede forced a Lancers turnover below the goal line leaving Adam Zlinka all alone in front of the net for him to make a move and net his eighth goal of the year. Making it a 6-2 lead for the Stampede.
The Lancers got one back with 1:59 left in the third on a breakaway from Aleksi Kivioja, giving the Finnish forward his ninth goal of the season with Nemec on the assist. Giving Nemec a multi-point night (0G-2A-2P).
The Lancers outshot Sioux Falls 11-8 in the third period, bringing the grand total to 37-29 in favor of the Stampede as they took the 6-3 victory.
The Lancers will be back at it for game 53 of the regular season back at Liberty First Credit Union Arena on March 31st to take on the Des Moines Buccaneers. Puck drop is set for 7:05PM CST. That game will be aired on FloSports and Mixlr.
