Omaha Lancers News Release
Ted Cook's third period goal from the left circle provided the winning margin, as the Lancers defeated the Stars 3-2, on Saturday, November 6th, at Lincoln. Cook's second game-winning goal of the season was his fifth goal overall and upped the current Lancer winning streak to three games.
Trevor Smith opened the scoring for the Lancers in the first period with his league-leading 10th goal of the season for a 1-0 lead at 17:56 of the first period. Corey Carlson and Tim Miller were given assists on the goal.
Jared Boll tied the game at 1-all in the second period for Lincoln, but Dirk Jelitto returned the lead to the Lancers with his fourth goal of the season, unassisted at 16:18, for a 2-1 margin. However, the Stars tied the game late in the period when Erik Condra beat Jeff Lerg in a scramble in front of the Lancer net for a 2-2 tie after two periods.
In the third period, Cook's game winning goal came from a bad angle in the lower left circle following a feed from Jeff LoVecchio at 2:40. Then, the Lancers had to hold off the Stars, who had a four-minute power play mid-way through the period, plus a man advantage late in the contest when goaltender Jordan Pearce was pulled for a sixth attacker. However, the Stars failed to score in both situations and the Lancers hung on for the one-goal victory.
Lincoln outshot the Lancers 34-28 for the game. Each team scored two power play goals in 11 opportunites apiece. The Lancers were tagged with 13 penalties for 49 minutes. The Stars were flagged for 15 penalties for 38 minutes. Lerg won his 9th game of the season (9-2-0) in goal for the Lancers while making 32 saves and allowing two goals. Pearce's record fell to 7-4-2 with the loss, as he made 25 saves and allowed three goals.
Corey Toy, Jelitto, Ryan Turek, and LoVecchio were plus-one for the contest. Brandon Naurato led the Lancers' offense with five shots on goal.
