Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, Neb. - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) announced today that the team and Head Coach/GM Mike Aikens have agreed to a mutual separation and that Aikens will not return behind the bench for 2013-14 season of Lancers hockey. Assistant Coach Brian Kaufman will coach the team during its final two regular season games this Friday at home against Dubuque and Saturday in Sioux Falls.

Aikens was named Interim Head Coach/GM on November 30, 2011 after Bliss Littler was relieved. He led the Lancers to a 29-11-1 record in 41 games last season and a second-place finish in the Western Conference. After a first round bye, Omaha was then dismissed in four games in the Western Conference semifinals by the Waterloo Black Hawks. This season, Aikens guided the Lancers to a 34-27-1 mark and a fifth-place finish in the Western Conference as the team failed to qualify for the USHL postseason for the first time 24 seasons.

Omaha (34-27-1, 69 pts.) returns to action this Friday evening as the team welcomes the Anderson Cup regular season champion Dubuque Fighting Saints to Ralston Arena for the Lancers' final home game this season. Tickets are currently available online at www.homepridetix.com . For more information regarding promotions during Friday's game please visit www.lancers.com .
