Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - No deficit has been to much for the JetHawks to overcome this season, as they showed again on Friday night. Lancaster scored four times in the final inning to beat the Modesto Nuts, 11-10, at The Hangar.
Modesto (20-22, 50-62) led by three runs heading into the ninth inning. Luke Morgan drove in a run with a single and Austin Bernard walked with the bases loaded to make it one-run game. Kyle Wilcox (2-4) walked three JetHawks in the inning.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Matt Hearn came through with a two-run single to win it. The victory was Lancaster's eighth in walk-off fashion this season, and their ninth when trailing after eight innings.
The JetHawks (24-18, 58-52) have now come from behind in 30 of their 58 victories this season. They have overcome deficits of three or more a total of 15 times.
Ryan Vilade again led the way on offense, going 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs, three runs batted in and three runs scored. It was the first multi-homer game of his professional career. He has driven in eight runs over the first four games of this homestand.
Vilade hit his first home run in the first inning. In the third inning, Vilade and Casey Golden hit back-to-back home runs, the fifth time a pair of JetHawks have done that in 2019. Vilade's multi-homer effort was the seventh by a JetHawk this season.
The JetHawks took an early lead on Vilade's first home run, but the Nuts scored five in the second inning. They led from then until the bottom of the ninth inning.
Hayden Roberts (4-1) earned the win with a perfect inning of work on the mound. He followed Salvador Justo, who struck out two in a scoreless eighth inning.
The JetHawks have won three-straight games and are now six games above .500, matching their high-water mark for the season. The win was the team's first at home against Modesto, as the Nuts swept the JetHawks at The Hangar to begin the season in April.
The three-game series continues Saturday night. Lefty Colten Schmidt (1-1) is set to make his third start for Lancaster opposite another southpaw in Steve Moyers (1-2). First pitch from The Hangar is 6:05 pm.
JetHawks single game tickets, group tickets, ticket packages and season tickets are on sale now. Visit jethawks.com or call (661) 726-5400 for more information.
