Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Jean-Philippe Lamoureux needed just 18 saves to record his league-leading 22nd win and fifth shutout as Alaska completed a three-game sweep of Pacific Division leader Ontario with a 2-0 whitewash in front of 5,915 Saturday at Sullivan Arena.
The Aces (27-14-3) have climbed within five points of West Division leader Victoria by extending their unbeaten streak to eight games, including a three-game sweep of the Salmon Kings at home two weeks ago. Alaska has won six straight contests at Sullivan Arena and has tasted defeat just once in its last 12 games (9-1-2). After a four-game road trip next week, the Aces return home for four more games against Victoria February 11-15.
Lamoureux has gone 9-1-1 in his last 11 starts, and Saturday night, received plenty of help from his defense, which limited the Reign to just three first period shots and only six in the second period as the teams battled to a scoreless tie. Luke Erickson finally broke the deadlock with his ninth goal in 13 games, a tip-in of a Matt Shasby drive from the point with Alaska on the power play at 6:45 of the final period. Colin Hemingway sealed the victory by scoring his team-leading 17th goal of the year into an empty net with 8.3 seconds remaining.
The Aces, who held a 32-18 advantage in shots on goal, have beaten Ontario five times in six games by a combined eight goals. Alaska hits the road for four games in five nights next week, beginning Wednesday in Stockton at 6:00 p.m. ADT. The Aces rallied from a 4-1 deficit with less than six minutes remaining to earn a point in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Thunder January 24. Alaska plays Bakersfield Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Ontario Saturday at 6:00 p.m. before a rematch in Stockton Sunday, February 8, at 3:00 p.m. All four games will be broadcast live on KFQD AM 750, with the Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show getting underway 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
