Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - Defenseman Janne Niskala posted two goals and Rich Peverley chipped in a pair of assists as the Milwaukee Admirals defeated the Quad City Flames 4-2 on Friday night at the Bradley Center. The win was the first for Lane Lambert as the team's new head coach.
The Admirals jumped out to their first lead of the season when John Vigilante beat Quad City goaltender Kevin Lalande at the 14:51 mark of the opening period. Peverley assisted on the play, as did Cody Franson marking his first professional point. Vigilante's tally was the lone goal of the stanza as the Ads went into the locker room up 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
The Flames' Tim Hambly tied the score at one 3:05 into the second, but the Admirals struck right back, scoring just nine seconds later when Matt Ellison took a feed from Kelsey Wilson and snuck one by Lalande. Milwaukee dominated play the rest of the second, outshooting the Flames15-3 and constantly buzzing the Quad City goal.
Niskala got what would eventually be the game-winner with a red-lighter at the 12:03 mark of the second on an assist by Cal O'Reilly to put the Ads went up 3-1 after two periods.
A four-minute roughing call against Eric Nystrom and a Brandon Prust throwing the stick infraction at the end of the second put Milwaukee on a five-on-three power-play to begin the third and Niskala took advantage by blasting a slap shot from just inside the blueline that found the back of the net 46 seconds into the period.
Pekka Rinne stood tall in net for the Admirals the rest of the way, swatting aside 15 shots in the final period alone, including several in dramatic fashion. The Finnish backstop made 24 saves on the night to pick up his first win of the season.
Niskala finished the night with the two goals, was +2 and also earned the game's first-star. Ellison and Alex Henry were also each +2 on the evening.
The Admirals travel to Chicago Saturday night for their first back-to-back games this season as the two squads will face off at 7:00 pm at the All-State Arena. Milwaukee is back at home next Friday, October 19th at 7:00 pm against the Iowa Stars.
