Charleston Lowgators News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. (January 14) Charleston Lowgators forward Ime Udoka has signed a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, making him the third "Gatorade Callup" of the season for the National Basketball Development League. Udoka is set to join the Lakers for tonight's game against Denver.

Udoka, in his second season with Charleston, has played in 17 games for the Lowgators, averaging 29.2 minutes, 14.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He has recorded four double-doubles this year.

"This is why I came back to the NBDL," an elated Udoka said. "I could have gone overseas but I knew that coming back to the Lowgators would give me the best chance to make it to the NBA."

The 6'6" Portland State product participated in the Lakers training camp last October and appeared in six games.

Udoka is the fourth Charleston player to get called up to the NBA in the Lowgators two and a half-year existence. Corey Benjamin, Damone Brown and current Lowgator Tierre Brown were promoted from Charleston to the NBA last season.

The Lowgators face the Asheville Altitude tonight at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7 p.m.

Individual game tickets are $13.50 for adults, $10.00 for students (13 through valid college I.D.) and the military and $7.50 for kids 2 to 12 and seniors 62 and older. Tickets can be purchased at the Coliseum Box Office; by calling 1-800-4-NBA-TIX; by calling 460-1000 or by logging on to www.charlestonlowgators.com.
