Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
BURLIGTON, VT --- Tyler Ramirez's one-out bases loaded walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Vermont Lake Monsters a 3-2 victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades Saturday in the completion of a New York-Penn League game suspended Friday night at historic Centennial Field.
In Saturday's scheduled seven-inning contest that followed, Hudson Valley scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh to snap a 2-2 tie and reliever Joe Serrapica struckout the side in the bottom of the inning to pick up his fifth save as the Renegades salvaged one game in the three-game series.
In the completion of Friday's suspended game, JaVon Shelby and Brett Sunde led off the 11th with back-to-back singles. Then after a groundout and intentional walk loaded the bases with one out, Ramirez hit a chopper over the drawn up infield into center scoring Shelby with the winning run.
Vermont had tied the game Friday in the bottom of the eighth inning on a one-out 346-foot solo homer from Eli White after the Renegades had scored single runs in the second and third to take a 2-1 lead. White was 3-for-5 with a double and the solo home run, while Nate Mondou went 3-for-5 with a run scored to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and Shelby 2-for-5.
Jesus Zambrano (1-1) worked out of a runner on third, no-out jam in top of 11th inning to earn the win for Vermont, while J.D. Busfield (2-1) allowed one run on five hits over 1 1/3 innings to take the loss.
In the seven-inning contest, the Renegades jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Jonathan Popadics RBI double and Miles Mastrobouni sac fly. Bowers settled down to toss five scoreless innings, finishing with two runs allowed on six hits with three strikeouts in a no-decision.
Vermont tied the game with a pair of runs in the sixth on a White RBI forceout and Luis Barrera sacrifice fly. The Lake Monsters finished with just three hits in the game, while Mondou went 0-for-2 with a walk to snap his 11-game hitting streak. Nathaniel Lowe was 2-for-4 with one run and a triple for Hudson Valley (19-16), while starter Spencer Moran retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced over his five innings.
Vermont (17-18) heads to Tri-City for a three-game series against the ValleyCats starting with a single game Sunday at 5:00 pm. The Lake Monsters return home to Centennial Field to begin a six-game homestand on Thursday.
