Tigers Swept by Black Bears

MORGANTOWN- WV - The Connecticut Tigers (20-15) were swept for the first time this season by the West Virginia Black Bears (18-17), affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, 12-3.

Blaise Salter shined again for the Tigers notching his third straight multi-hit game and moving his hit streak to six games. Salter leads the team with 38 hits and is top five in the New York-Penn League.

The Black Bears got out ahead early in the first when Hunter Owen cracked a two-run shot into the left field bullpen. Owen went 4-5 with 5 runs batted in and was a triple short of the cycle. The Black Bears opened up their lead in the fourth inning with a five-run frame.

Will Savage drove in the first runs of the game for the Tigers in the fifth, the bases-loaded single into centerfield drove in a pair for the Tigers. The Tigers continued to rally in the frame with runners at second and third with one out but couldn't produce any further runs.

Daniel Pinero delivered a two-hit night for Connecticut which included an RBI single in the ninth inning.

The Tigers pitching staff allowed a season-high 15 hits in the game tonight and West Virginia was able to produce double digit hit games in all three games in the series.

The Tigers head to Ohio to play Mahoning Valley, affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, for a three-game series to end the road trip. Tomorrow's game is scheduled to kick off at 4:05 p.m. Kyle Funkhouser gets the nod for Connecticut to end the four-game losing streak.

The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid-June through early September. 2016 season tickets, group tickets, mini plans, individual game tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale!
