OAK BLUFFS, Mass. - The Worcester Bravehearts lost all six regular season games against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks, but in their first playoff matchup together, Worcester defeated the Sharks 5-2 in Game 1 of the FCBL Championship Series on Aug. 12 at Vineyard Baseball Park in Oak Bluffs, Mass.

One night removed from his game-winning RBI single against the Pittsfield Suns, shortstop Andy Lack hit a 3-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Bravehearts a commanding 5-0 lead against the FCBL Eastern Division Champions. Right before Lack's at bat, left fielder Ian Strom and catcher TJ Riccio recorded RBI singles to break the deadlock.

Lack's four RBI this postseason puts him in second place behind his teammate Jordan Berry who had six RBI in Game 1 of the FCBL semifinal round against the Pittsfield Suns on Aug. 10.

Martha's Vineyard starter Soren Hanson took the loss after allowing all five runs on three hits in five innings tossed. Hanson struck out five and walked two.

Despite allowing eight hits, Worcester starter Tyrone Miller got his second win in as many games pitched. The St. Leo University senior was charged with two runs in the seventh inning but pitched six scoreless innings and struck out two. Bravehearts reliever Sam Ross replaced Miller in the seventh inning and allowed only one hit in two innings of work.

Marlboro, Mass., native Charlie Butler recorded his fourth save of the season, as he allowed only one hit and struck out two batters to seal the victory in the ninth inning.

The Sharks outhit the Bravehearts 10-5 but could only muster up to runs in the game. Martha's Vineyard center fielder Ryan Kelly was the game's only multi-hit performer, as he finished 3-5 at the plate.

The Worcester Bravehearts can clinch the FCBL Championship with one more win against the Sharks. The teams will matchup again for Game 2 at 7:05 p.m. Aug. 14 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
