February 11, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Los Angeles Galaxy News Release

LOS ANGELES - The LA Galaxy will unveil a statue of legendary midfielder David Beckham and will induct the iconic player into the club's Ring of Honor on Saturday, March 2 at Dignity Health Sports Park when the club kicks off the 2019 MLS season against the Chicago Fire (5 p.m. PT, FS1, FOX Deportes). The #BeckhamStatue will be unveiled on Saturday, March 2 in a pregame ceremony, open to the public, at Dignity Health Sports Park. At halftime, Beckham, a two-time MLS Cup Champion, will join Cobi Jones, Mauricio Cienfuegos and Doug Hamilton in the club's Ring of Honor.

"The LA Galaxy are a very special club to me, so to receive this honour is incredible and very humbling," said David Beckham. "Personally, I will always be eternally grateful for the amazing welcome the club, the fans and the city of Los Angeles gave me and my family from the minute we first arrived. My time playing and the friends we made during that period are so important to me - and Los Angeles, in so many ways, will always feel like a home to us.

The LA Galaxy is a club whose leaders and fans have done so much for soccer in the USA, so to be part of this club's great history is a privilege and something that makes me and my family very proud."

Beckham's statue will mark the first of its kind in Major League Soccer. The ceremony unveiling the statue will be open to fans attending the match and will take place prior to the LA Galaxy's 24th season in MLS. The exact time and location will be announced at a later date.

"We greatly look forward to honoring one of the most influential players in LA Galaxy and Major League Soccer history," said LA Galaxy President Chris Klein. "David helped transform this league and the sport in the United States. He has played an important role in making the LA Galaxy the league's most iconic brand and most successful club. This honor is well deserved. David will forever be a part of the fabric of Major League Soccer and the LA Galaxy."

Beckham joined the LA Galaxy in 2007 as the biggest signing in Major League Soccer history. He remained with the club through 2012, making 98 appearances and adding 18 goals and 40 assists while winning two MLS Cup trophies. Throughout his career, Beckham played at the biggest clubs in the world, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, A.C. Milan and Paris Saint Germain in addition to the LA Galaxy.
