LA Galaxy Hope to Pick up "Overdue" Win on the Road

CARSON, Calif. - Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane have been talking all week about the LA Galaxy looking like the "Galaxy of old" in consecutive home victories over FC Dallas and Philadelphia.

But now comes a big test in the form of Sunday's match in Chicago against the Fire at Toyota Park (1 p.m., Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Time Warner Cable Deportes).

The road, to say the least, has not been especially kind to the Galaxy (4-3-3, 15 points), who are seventh in the Western Conference but only three points behind third-place Colorado and FC Dallas.

The Galaxy, in fact, haven't won away from StubHub Center since Aug. 24, 2013 in Vancouver, British Columbia where Donovan's third-minute goal was the difference in a 1-0 victory.

Since that game, the Galaxy are 0-3-5 during the regular season away from StubHub Center.

"I have no idea, no idea," Keane said, shaking his head, when asked about the Galaxy's struggles on the road. "Just amazing."

Donovan, who just broke the MLS all-time record for career regular season goals, said the lack of results away from home has been misleading.

"We've struggled results-wise. We've actually played well," he said of the team's continuing road woes. "We played well at Salt Lake, didn't play poorly at Colorado, we played well in Vancouver ... just haven't gotten results. We played really well in Portland and should have won the game.

"We're playing well. We just have to have that killer mentality. Be more professional and hold on to leads when we get them. At the end of the day a tie isn't the worst thing. There have been a few games where we should have won and we've got to do better."

The Galaxy will be taking on a Fire team (2-3-6, eighth in the East) that features a couple of familiar faces, one in particular.

"Yeah, Frank Yallop," Donovan joked about his former Galaxy and San Jose coach who is in his first season with the Fire.

The Fire also have Mike Magee, who was traded to Chicago last May and went on to win the MLS MVP award. Magee, however, has been bothered by calf problems this season and his status for this weekend's match is uncertain.

"We know he has an injury, but we do not know if he's available or not," Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said. "I'm happy for his success. If he's on the field I look forward to seeing him. If he's not on the field I look forward to seeing him off the field."

Added Donovan, "It will be good to see Mike. We're all excited to see him. We're obviously very happy for him and how he did last year. Hopefully he's healthy and gets to play. I know he'll be excited for it. We're going there to win the game and we feel good about where we're at.

"We're overdue to win a game on the road and we're a good enough team where we should be winning games on the road."
