LA Galaxy Fall to Portland Timbers at 2023 Coachella Valley Invitational on Sunday Afternoon

LOS ANGELES - Playing their second match in the 2023 Coachella Valley Invitational, the LA Galaxy fell 4-1 to the Portland Timbers at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif., on Sunday afternoon.

2023 LA Galaxy Preseason

In five preseason matches played in 2023, the LA Galaxy hold a 2-2-1 record. On Jan. 24, the Galaxy earned a 3-2 win over D.C. United behind goals from Riqui Puig, Efraín Álvarez and a stoppage-time game-winning goal by Preston Judd. On Jan. 28, the LA Galaxy and Charlotte FC played to a 1-1 draw, with Riqui Puig tallying a penalty-kick goal in the draw against Charlotte. LA fell 2-1 to New York City FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Feb. 4. In their first match of the Coachella Valley Invitational, Álvarez tallied two goals, while Dejan Joveljić and Mark Delgado scored their first goals of the preseason in a 4-1 win over St. Louis CITY SC on Feb. 8. Álvarez leads the Galaxy with three goals scored during the 2023 preseason, while Memo Rodríguez leads LA with two assists during the preseason. The Galaxy close out their time at the Coachella Valley Invitational against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, Feb. 15 (10:30 a.m. PT), before wrapping up the 2023 preseason against Toronto FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday, Feb. 18 (6:30 p.m. PT).

POR - Evander (Jaroslaw Niezgoda), 28th minute - Following a failed clearance, Evander's shot from the edge of the 18-yard box was curled into the top left corner.

POR - Cristhian Paredes, 47th minute - Cristhian Paredes' deflected shot from inside the box sailed into the upper corner of the goal.

LA - Tyler Boyd (Memo Rodríguez), 56th minute - Working down the right flank, Memo Rodríguez's pass down into the center of the penalty area found Tyler Boyd, whose half-volleyed, chipped effort flew over Portland goalkeeper David Bingham and into the back of the net.

POR - Juan Mosquera (Eryk Williamson), 60th minute - Juan Mosquera's shot from the right side of the penalty area was finished into the far corner of the goal.

POR - Jaroslaw Niezgoda (Eryk Williamson), 68th minute - Jaroslaw Niezgoda latched onto a pass inside the box and laced his shot into the top left corner of the net.
