
LA Galaxy Academy Under-18's, Under-16's and Under-14's kick off season on Saturday

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014) - The LA Galaxy Academy Under-18, Under-16, and Under-14 teams will kick off their 2014-15 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season against Strikers FC Under-18, Under-16, and Under-14 on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Santa Ana College's Field 1 in Santa Ana, Calif. The U-18's will take the field first at 10:00 a.m. PT, followed by the U-16's at 12:30 p.m. PT and the U-14's at 3:00 p.m. PT.
Led by head coach Ante Razov, one of the all-time leading goal scorers in MLS history, the Galaxy Academy U-18's roster features more than 10 players that won the Under-16 2013-2014 Development Academy Championship against Real Salt Lake AZ U-16 on July 19, including Dylan Smith and Juan Orozco, who both scored in the Galaxy's 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake AZ U-16's. The team is looking to improve on the last two season's Southwest Division championship campaigns and advance to Finals Week, a feat never accomplished before by the Galaxy Academy at the U-18 level.
The reigning U.S. Soccer 2013-2014 Development Academy Champions, the Galaxy Academy U-16's also features a handful of players that have part of various U.S. Soccer Youth National Team training camps, including two players- Goalkeeper Eric Lopez and defender Hugo Arellano - who were named to U.S. U-17's 29-man roster for the upcoming 2014 Fall Semester U-17 Residency Program. The National Champions of the 2010-11 and 2013-14 Development Academy season, the Galaxy Academy U-16's earned a 18-3-6 record last year and finished undefeated and on top of Group D of the 2013-14 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs after earning an impressive 3-0-0 record. Now in his second year as Galaxy U-16 Academy head coach, Mike Munoz has a career coaching record of 71-15-21 in the Development Academy, has advance to the playoffs each of his four seasons in the USSDA and was named the 2010-11 USSDA Coach of the Year.
After the games this weekend, the Galaxy Academy returns to StubHub Center to begin preparations for their first home game of the season, a triple-header against Arsenal FC on Saturday, Sept. 13 on the StubHub Center's Field 4. The games start at 10 a.m. with the U-18's taking the field first, followed by the U-16's at 12:30 p.m. and then the U-14's at 3 p.m.

TWO LA GALAXY ACADEMY PLAYERS NAMED TO ROSTER FOR U.S. UNDER-17 FALL RESIDENCY SEMESTER: Two members of the LA Galaxy Academy will be joining the U.S. Under-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, FL. Galaxy Academy Goalkeeper Eric Lopez and defender Hugo Arellano were named to U.S. U-17's 29-man roster for the upcoming 2014 Fall Residency program. Lopez has been with the residency program since the Spring semester while Arellano is the roster's most capped player with 16 international appearances. Arellano is a recent addition to the Galaxy Academy from the Chivas USA Academy.
