HIDALGO, Texas - Hidalgo La Fiera clinched the Central Division championship in a tight contest defeating the Monterrey Flash by a final score of 9-8 at State Farm Arena on Saturday night.
Hidalgo (15-2) will await the winner of the Pacific Division between Las Vegas and San Diego for in the semi-final of the PASL Playoffs. .
La Fiera got the scoring started early in the first quarter when Erick Flores slotted home a pass from Armando Teran that made it 1-0. Hidalgo continued the scoring with the same combination Flores from Teran to make it a 2-0 game. La Fiera added a third goal when Joel Perez put home an Edgar Flores pass to increase the lead to 3-0.
Monterrey (14-4) responded with a goal late in the first quarter by Lourenco Andrade scoring on a pass from Gustavo Rosales to make it 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.
La Fiera added a pair of goals in the second quarter from Robson De Souza and Leonardo Casanova to make it 5-1 at the break.
Monterrey, as they trailed at the half, scored four goals in the third quarter to tie the game at 5 apiece as Erick Tovar, Miguel Garza, Brayan Aguilar, and Rosales tallied.
Hidalgo regained the lead with combination of Flores and Teran to regain the lead at 6-5 at the end of the third quarter.
The Flash would tie and gain their first lead in the lead in the fourth quarter as Jorge Luiz Birche and Tovar goals gave them a 7-6 early in the fourth quarter.
La Fiera would respond with three goals as Carlos Farias scored twice and De Souza gave them a 9-7 lead which gave them some insurance.
Erick Tovar added his third goal of the match with less than a minute left as they had six attackers on the field, but it was a little late in the match.
Juan Gamboa had 15 saves facing 23 shots as he made vital saves throughout the match as he was selected to the All-League First Team earlier in the week.
The next game for La Fiera will be on Saturday, March 15 at the Sears Centre in Chicago, Illinois as they await the winner of the Pacific Division between San Diego and Las Vegas in the semi-final of the PASL League Championships.
