PHARR, Texas - An early goal by Austin FC forward Patrick Miller gave them an early 1-0 in what was to be a shock result if it held. Hidalgo La Fiera had other plans as they erased the deficit to defeat Austin FC in the United States Open Cup quarterfinal match by final score of 13-2 at the Golazo Sports Park.
The victory for La Fiera gives them a pass to the semifinal of the United States Open Cup where they await the winner of the Las Vegas Legends and Bay Area Rosal.
Austin FC jumped to an early 1-0 courtesy of a Patrick Miller goal which was set up by Chris Perez.
La Fiera responded with 13 goals which were highlighted by a Carlos Farias hat trick and braces by Mark Ughy, Juan Antonio Vargas, and Robson De Souza. Armando Teran and Farias contributed with three assists in the rally that made it 13-1 in the fourth quarter.
Austin FC scored a late consolation when Luiz Maldonado scored unassisted when the game was well out of reach making it 13-2.
Brownsville Goal keeper Juan Gamboa earned the victory for La Fiera with eight saves. La Fiera went 2-for-2 on the man advantage.
Hidalgo La Fiera will culminate a three game home stand on Thursday, February 6th when they host the Texas Strikers at State Farm Arena with the kickoff set for 11:05 am.
