L.A. GALAXY AND KANSAS CITY WIZARDS TANGLE FOR WESTERN CONFERENCE'S TOP SPOT SATURDAY LIVE ON KCAL-9: Thanks to their convincing 2-0 defeat of the Dallas Burn in front of a sell-out crowd of 27,000 in their final regular season home game of 2004 on October 9, (see details below) the Los Angeles Galaxy (11-8-10, 43 pts. – 2nd West) will face the Kansas City Wizards (13-9-7, 46 pts. – 1st West) next Saturday, October 16 in Kansas City with the top Western Conference berth in the 2004 MLS Cup Playoffs on the line. The 5:30 pm (PT) match will be televised LIVE on KCAL-9, beginning with the Galaxy Countdown pre-game show at 5:00. The Galaxy trail the Wizards by just three points in standings entering the final weekend of the regular season, and can take the top seed in the West with a victory by a margin of two or more goals, which would put them in statistical dead heat with their opponents and would give them the title based on the third possible tiebreaker between the teams – total goals scored in the 2004 regular season.

The Galaxy and the Wizards have already met three times during the present campaign, with the Wizards winning the first game 2-1 in Carson on June 5, followed by consecutive ties on July 24 in Kansas City (2-2) and October 2 in Carson (1-1). The Galaxy lead the all-time series between the clubs 16-14-5, but the Wizards have a 10-4-1 mark in games played in their own backyard.

Galaxy fans can also listen to the match live throughout the Southland in one of two languages: English (KMPC – 1540 AM) or Spanish (KMXE – 830 AM).

GALAXY TO "GO FOR GOLD" IN FIRST HOME PLAYOFF GAME ON OCTOBER 30 – TICKETS ALREADY ON SALE: Thanks to their win on the weekend against the Burn, the Galaxy clinched no less than the second seed in the Western Conference for the MLS Cup Playoffs and assured themselves of hosting a game at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, October 30 at 7 pm. Though the opponent has not yet been determined, tickets are already on sale for this contest. As one of the opportunities to buy tickets to the match, the Galaxy is offering a "Go For Gold" Playoff Pak, which includes four tickets to that evening's game and four "Go For Gold" t-shirts starting at just $60. Fans interested in getting more information on tickets or purchasing the "Go For Gold" Playoff Pak, should contact the Galaxy ticket office directly by calling toll-free at 1-877-3GALAXY.

GALAXY SCORCH BURN IN SOLD-OUT REGULAR SEASON HOME FINALE: Jovan Kirovski (later named Honda MLS Player of the Week for his efforts) scored a pair of second-half goals as the Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the Dallas Burn 2-0 Saturday night at a sold-out Home Depot Center. Kirovski nodded home a corner kick midway through the second half then hooked home a free kick five minutes from the end as the Galaxy kept alive their hopes of claiming the top seed in the Western Conference for the MLS Cup Playoffs and home-field advantage throughout the postseason. The first half saw both teams content to play in midfield, with neither team generating much in terms of attack, though the best scoring chances fell to the Galaxy. The game again settled into a midfield battle until the 68th minute when the Galaxy finally broke the scoreless tie. Minutes after coming on as a substitute -- his first appearance in three games -- Andreas Herzog drove in a corner kick that was flicked to the back post by Dallas' Jason Kreis. Kirovski calmly headed the ball into the back of the net to give the Galaxy the lead. Kirovski would strike again in the 85th minute off of a well-taken free kick, bending it around the wall inside the near post as Garlick was far too late to arrive and the home side wrapped up the victory.

JONES AND MARSHALL EARN POINTS WITH RESPECTIVE NATIONAL TEAMS: Galaxy midfielder Cobi Jones and defender Tyrone Marshall both played in crucial matches for their respective national teams on the weekend in the semifinal round of CONCACAF qualifying to the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany. Jones, the most-capped player in USA history, played the final six minutes as the Stars and Stripes took three points against hosts El Salvador in a 2-0 victory. Marshall, meanwhile, appeared for all 90 minutes of Jamaica's contest with Panama, as the Reggae Boyz and the canaleros tied 1-1. Both players will remain with their national sides for mid-week clashes as they trade opponents in Group A, with the table in the group to become much clearer after those games.
