LA Galaxy News Release
PASADENA, CA (Thursday, March 21, 2002) - Top college prospect and 2002 SuperDraft pick Gavin Glinton has signed with Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Los Angeles Galaxy. Glinton, a four-time All-American from Bradley University, will make his first professional soccer appearance in a Galaxy uniform during Saturday's season opener vs. D.C. United.
"We are pleased with the addition of Gavin Glinton," said Doug Hamilton, VP/GM of the L.A. Galaxy. "His ability and flair are consistent with our commitment to bringing exciting players into the team."
With the 25th overall pick in the SuperDraft, Los Angeles tapped Brentwood, California native Gavin Glinton. One of the top college prospects, Glinton headed overseas for trails with three European clubs, visiting Plymouth Argyle (English Third Division) Dundee United (Scottish Premiership) and KAA Gent (Belgium First Division).
"I have always dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player and coming to the L.A. Galaxy makes it that much sweeter," said Glinton. "I bring good vision and speed along with the ability to beat players. I look forward to playing with newcomer Carlos Ruiz and established veterans such as Mauricio Cienfuegos, Cobi Jones, Alexi Lalas and the rest of the team."
The 5-10, 150-pound Glinton is one of the most-decorated student-athletes in both Bradley Athletics history and Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) soccer history. MVC's career leader in goals (53) and points (133), he was the first-ever MVC soccer player to be voted first-team all-conference four times. He received his bachelor's degree in business management and administration last year.
The Galaxy will open its seventh MLS season on March 23 when they take on D.C. United at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (7:00 p.m. PT kickoff) For more information regarding Los Angeles Galaxy season tickets for the 2002 MLS season, please call the Galaxy toll free at (877) 3GALAXY.
