June 27, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Wide receiver/defensive back Lenzie Jackson and the Los Angeles Avengers have come to an agreement on a two-year contract that will keep the veteran in Los Angeles through the 2008 season, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.

Jackson (6-feet, 190 pounds, Arizona State) played in 10 games for the Avengers last season, catching 27 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he finished with 12.5 tackles, three pass breakups and one forced fumble.

"Lenzie has great potential and is a bona fide two-way player in this league," Hodgkiss said. "He can do a wide variety of things and we're extremely happy to keep him in the Avenger family for the next couple years."

The Avengers are the third Arena Football League team that Jackson has played with. He played in six games for the Carolina Cobras in 2004, catching 24 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns. In 2005, Jackson caught 11 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown in eight games with the Columbus Destroyers.

He played for three NFL teams before debuting in the AFL. Following the 1999 NFL Draft, Jackson signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He began the 1999 season on the practice squad, but ended up playing in four games for the Jaguars. In 2000, Jackson played in five games for the Cleveland Browns. He played in 12 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2001.

Jackson's signing means that the Avengers now have 19 players on their active roster under contract. He would have become a free agent if he had not re-signed with the Avengers by Friday, June 30. Each AFL team has until June 30 to exclusively negotiate with its own players eligible for free agency.
