Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA BAY - The five-time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm have re-signed lineman Rod Williams to a one-year contract, Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Tim Marcum announced today.

Williams, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound OL/DL, will be playing in his ninth Arena Football League season, all with the Storm. He played in eight contests in 2006 and recorded 2.5 tackles, one sack and one pass break-up. He suffered a season ending Achilles injury on March 18 versus the New York Dragons.

A vital part of the 2003 Storm championship season Williams is the third longest tenured player on the Storm's current roster (Lawrence Samuels, 12 and Nyle Wiren, 9).

In 83 career games he has accumulated 55.5 tackles, sits fourth on the franchise list for sacks with 14, has intercepted one pass and forced five fumbles. In 2001 he was named to the AFL's Second-Team All-Arena team after accumulating a career high with six sacks.

Williams spent his collegiate career at Florida A&M from 1992-95. He led the team in sacks in 1993 with 10.5 and again in 1995 with nine. He was named Defensive Lineman of the Year in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the All-MEAC first team in both those seasons.
