Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Remy Hamilton, one of the top kickers in Arena Football League history, has re-signed with the Los Angeles Avengers, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today. A free agent eligible to sign with any team in the league, he agreed to a two-year deal.

Hamilton, a seven-year AFL veteran who has been with the Avengers for the past three seasons, currently ranks at No. 3 on the AFL's all-time scoring by kickers chart with 877 points. He is one of only four players to boot more than 100 field goals in the AFL.

"One of our top priorities in the offseason was to re-sign Remy," said Hodgkiss, who has led the Avengers to the playoffs in each of his three years at the helm. "We believe he is the top kicker in the AFL, because he helps us in so many ways. Remy is a good all-around football player, not just an accurate kicker. He has the strong leg you need on kickoffs and is also an excellent tackler."

Last season, Hamilton led the AFL in field goal percentage, nailing 14 of his 24 attempts (58 percent). He was third in extra point percentage at 92 percent (86-of-94).

An excellent special teams player after he boots the football downfield, Hamilton has made 41 tackles in his three previous seasons with the Avengers.

In 2003, he scored a career-high 148 points (second most in the AFL among kickers). After signing a free agent contract with the Avengers on Jan. 25, 2002, Hamilton set eight Avenger team records, including most field goals in a game (four) and season (16). On July 6, 2002, he kicked a 52-yard field goal to establish what is still a franchise best.

Hamilton, 29, began his AFL career in 1998, spending two seasons with the Grand Rapids Rampage. In 2000, he moved on to play for the Carolina Cobras in their inaugural season. In 2001, he played for the Milwaukee Mustangs.

At the University of Michigan, Hamilton was a first-team All-Big Ten Conference selection and a finalist for the Lou Groza Award (given to the nation's top collegiate placekicker) as a sophomore in 1994. During that season, he led the team with 101 points, setting a school scoring record for kickers.

The Avengers went 9-7 this past season and qualified for the ArenaBowl Playoffs for the third consecutive year. Los Angeles led the AFL in scoring (56.5 points per game) and averaged 12,590 fans at STAPLES Center for eight home games.

Fifty dollar deposits for 2005 Avenger season tickets are now being accepted at 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com.
