Las Vegas selected to host ArenaBowl XIX
October 18, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
LAS VEGAS â The Arena Football League has selected Las Vegas to host the first neutral-site championship game in its history. ArenaBowl XIX will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center on June 12, 2005.
For the first time ever, AFL fans can purchase tickets to the ArenaBowl well in advance of the game. Fans can call 1-866-AFL-TIXS or go to www.arenabowl.com right now to reserve tickets. Comprehensive travel and event weekend packages to ArenaBowl XIX Las Vegas will be available to fans within 30 days.
A neutral-site championship game gives fans time to make plans to attend the game and allows the AFL to put together a unique sports and entertainment weekend. The previous 18 ArenaBowls were held in the city of the team with the best record in the game and only allowed one or two weeks of preparation.
"Las Vegas is the nation's premier entertainment destination and we are proud it is hosting our inaugural neutral-site championship game," said Commissioner DAVID BAKER. "Regardless of who plays in the game, AFL fans are the real winners. By having ArenaBowl XIX in Las Vegas, we will plan more events around the game for a total entertainment weekend that fans will love."
ArenaBowl Weekend will be filled with interactive, player and celebrity events, such as an awards show, concert, fan festivals, golf outing, all-star skills game and more. Additional details on ArenaBowl Weekend will be released shortly.
"It is an honor that the Arena Football League has chosen Las Vegas as the destination for its championship game," said Las Vegas Mayor OSCAR GOODMAN. "With the wonderful amenities and attractions that Las Vegas has to offer, there is no better place in the world to host events of this magnitude. We welcome the opportunity to host the 19th edition of the ArenaBowl next June, and we look forward to building a relationship with the Arena Football League and all of its fans that make this one of the fastest growing sports in the country."
"We are extremely excited about our partnership with the Arena Football League because the ArenaBowl is a perfect addition to our roster of events," said PAT CHRISTENSON, president of Las Vegas Events, who negotiated the agreement with the AFL. "With the National Finals Rodeo, Professional Bull Riders World Finals, FEI World Cup 2005 Dressage and Budweiser Jumping Finals, UAW Daimler Chrysler 400 NASCAR Nextel Cup race and numerous prize fights, Las Vegas is a place where championships are settled. The partnership with the AFL provides an opportunity to host the championship game and also to create marketing extensions for Las Vegas throughout the season."
