Rush adds five to training camp roster

The Chicago Rush announced today it has added five players to its 2005 training camp roster. WR/DBs B.J. Barre, Chris Day and Carlos Wright along with FB/LB Merrill Robertson each signed three-year contracts, while FB/LB Terrell Washington signed a two-year deal.

Barre (6-0, 185, Ohio State) joins the Rush after spending the 2004 season with the af2's Tulsa Talons. Barre played in 13 games, catching 48 passes for 569 yards and 15 touchdowns. He finished the season tied for the team lead with four interceptions to go along with 31 tackles, 12 passes broken up, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Prior to playing for Tulsa, Barre spent two seasons (2000, 2001) playing safety for Ohio State.

Day (6-0, 182, Grambling) signs with the Rush after spending the summer in training camp with the Green Bay Packers. After transferring from Troy State, Day spent the 2003 season playing on both sides of the ball at Grambling. He caught 26 passes for 347 yards and five touchdowns and recorded five tackles.

Wright (6-2, 205, Tennessee State) enters the AFL after a career at Tennessee State in which he played wide receiver, running back and defensive back as well as handled kick and punt return duties. As a senior, Wright caught 20 passes for 349 yards, rushed 49 times for 230 yards, recorded six tackles and scored six touchdowns.

Robertson (6-1, 250, Virginia) spent the 2004 season as a member of the Dallas Desperados practice squad. He has attended NFL training camps in each of the last two years – with the Minnesota Vikings (2004) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2003). In college Robertson played fullback and defensive end before finishing his career as a Cavaliers' linebacker.

Washington (6-3, 255, Illinois) comes to Chicago after spending time with NFL Europe's Amsterdam Admirals and the NFL's Houston Texans. During his three seasons in Champaign, Washington played in 34 games, including the 2002 Nokia Sugar Bowl against LSU, recording 140 tackles and 15 sacks.
