Kubiak Returns to Bridgeport

(Bridgeport, Conn.) - Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced that pitcher David Kubiak will re-join the Bluefish bullpen after having his contract purchased by the New York Yankees organization earlier in the season.

"David did a terrific job for us at the beginning of the season," says Bluefish Manager Luis Rodriguez. "It will be great to have him back in the bullpen."

David Kubiak returns to Bridgeport during his fifth season of professional baseball. He began the 2016 campaign with the 'Fish, where he collected one victory, 20 strikeouts and a 3.18 ERA in 11.1 innings across five games. On May 4, 2016, he had his contract purchased by the New York Yankees and was assigned to Double-A Trenton of the Eastern League. There, Kubiak made three relief appearances and collected a 1.42 ERA. Last year, the right-hander played for Joliet of the independent Frontier League where he made 33 mound appearances, collecting seven wins with a 2.16 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 95.2 innings pitched. The 26-year-old made his professional debut in 2011 after being selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 36th round of the MLB Draft, appearing with two Rookie-level teams. The following season, he joined Evansville of the Frontier League, and in 2014 he played for Southern Illinois and Joliet, both also of the Frontier League. In 108 career minor league games, Kubiak owns an 18-12 record with a 2.41 ERA, 13 saves and 247 strikeouts in 216.2 innings of work.
