April 8, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Dallas Desperados News Release

The Arena Football League today announced that Dallas Desperados quarterback Jim Kubiak and offensive specialist Dialleo Burks have been named AFL co-Offensive Players of the Week. This is Kubiak second such honor this season – having been selected following the Week Five game in Arizona – and is Burks first player of the week honor of his career. In 2002, Burks was named AFL Rookie of the Month for May for his only other league honor. Today's selections represent the third overall time Desperados players have been selected AFL Offensive Player(s) of the Week.

Kubiak led the Desperados to a come-from-behind victory over the San Jose SaberCats despite throwing a season-low 24 passes. He completed 17 of those throws (70.8%) for 303 yards and eight touchdowns. His eight scoring passes set a personal career-high and ties the second highest single game touchdown total in franchise history.

Burks proved to be Kubiak's favorite target against the SaberCats, catching seven passes for 135 yards and a career-high tying five touchdowns, including a 45-yarder on the game's first play from scrimmage. He scored on all four of his first half catches before making some clutch second half grabs, including a 30-yard scoring catch late in the fourth quarter to give Dallas a three point lead. For his efforts at Reunion Arena, Burks was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

Behind Kubiak and Burks, the Desperados battled a nine-point deficit for most of the first half before cutting their halftime deficit to five points at 36-31. San Jose quickly grabbed a 12-point lead to open the second half and maintained that advantage as the teams entered the final frame. Kubiak quickly hooked up with Will Pettis for two touchdowns – sandwiched around a Pettis interception – in the first two minutes of the fourth period to take a 53-50 lead. The teams traded the lead three times before Kubiak led the squad to the game-winning touchdown with 0:23 remaining in the game.

Burks leads the Desperados this season with a career-high 68 catches for a career-high 874 yards and a career-high tying 16 touchdowns. He currently ranks seventh in the AFL in catches, ninth in receiving yards and tied for 11th in receiving touchdowns.

Kubiak has completed 236-of-344 passes for 3,064 yards, 59 touchdowns and seven interceptions on the year. He is currently leads the league in yards-per-pass attempt (8.91), ransk second in passing yards-per-game (303.3), completion percentage (69.1), passing yards and passer rating (124.7) and is third in passing touchdowns.

Kubiak, Burks and the rest of the Dallas Desperados travel to Indiana to take on the Firebirds this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The game will be televised by NBC Sports and can be seen locally on NBC 5. The Desperados return to Reunion Arena on April 27 when they host the Los Angeles Avengers at 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for the Los Angeles game by calling 972-785-4900, visiting metroplex TicketMaster locations or by ordering through the Desperados website at www.dallasdesperados.com.
