AFL Names Players of the Week

NEW YORK – Dallas Desperados quarterback JIM KUBIAK, wide receiver/linebacker DIALLEO BURKS, Chicago Rush offensive/defensive lineman JOHN MOYER and Tampa Bay Storm fullback/linebacker ANDRE BOWDEN have been named Co-Offensive Players, ADT Defensive Player and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 10 of the 2003 season.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kubiak (6-2, 218, Navy), a third-year AFL veteran, connected on 17-of-24 passes for 303 yards, eight touchdowns and no interceptions in the Desperados' 67-64 victory over the San Jose SaberCats (7-3) on Sunday. The Naval Academy graduate led the Desperados (6-4) by connecting on three fourth-quarter touchdown passes and overcoming a 12-point deficit. Kubiak ranks amongst the League leaders in completion percentage (69.1, Tied-No. 1), passing yards (3,037, No. 2) and passing touchdowns (59, No. 3). This marks the second time Kubiak has earned an AFL weekly honor.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Burks (6-2, 195, Eastern Kentucky), who is in his second AFL season, hauled in seven receptions for 135 yards and five touchdowns in the Desperados' win over San Jose. The Offensive Player of the Year candidate helped lead the Desperados back from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter with a key touchdown late in the game. Burks leads Dallas in receptions (68), receiving yards (874) and receiving touchdowns (16). This marks the first time Burks has earned an AFL weekly honor.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Moyer (6-3, 265, Eastern Illinois), who is in his fifth AFL season, led Chicago (4-6) on the defensive side of the ball in the Rush's 62-45 victory over the Detroit Fury (5-5) on Friday. The former Panther recorded 4.0 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. Moyer, who is among the top candidates for Lineman of the Year, leads Rush linemen in total tackles (16.5), sacks (6.0) and forced fumbles (2). This marks the first time Moyer has earned an AFL weekly honor.

IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Bowden (6-2, 260, Fayetteville State), who is in his 10th AFL season, led Tampa Bay (8-2) with his two-way performance by recording two rushing touchdowns on offense and adding one tackle, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and a sack in the Storm's 58-39 victory over the Georgia Force (6-4) on Sunday. On his way to garnering Co-Ironman of the Game honors, the former Bronco standout had four rushing attempts and is 14 carries away from becoming the AFL's all-time leader in rushing attempts (LES BARLEY, 425). This marks the eighth time Bowden has earned an AFL weekly honor.

Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Sherdrick Bonner, Buffalo's James Bowden, Chicago's Antonio Chatman, Grand Rapids' Clint Dolezel, Las Vegas' Jay McDonagh, Los Angeles' Tony Graziani and Tampa Bay's Freddie Solomon.

ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Clarence Lawson, Colorado's Ahmad Hawkins, Detroit's Ron Carpenter, Georgia's Bret Cooper, Las Vegas' T.J. Hill and Los Angeles' Cornelius Coe.

Ironman of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Tom Pace, Buffalo's Sir Mawn Wilson, Chicago's Lindsay Fleshman, Dallas' Will Pettis, Indiana's Rich Young, Las Vegas' Sedrick Robinson, Los Angeles' Greg Hopkins and Tampa Bay' s B.J. Cohen.
