Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - Waterloo Black Hawks forward Tyler Kostelecky will join the Long Island University hockey program for the 2022/23 season, becoming the 22nd member of last year's team with a college commitment.

Kostelecky became a Black Hawk just before the beginning of his final year at the junior level. He played in 51 regular season games with 10 goals and 11 assists. Additionally, he had a +5 plus/minus differential (tied for third on the team) and three game-winning goals. Kostelecky's year was highlighted by a pair of three-point performances: October 23rd versus Lincoln (two goals, one assist) and October 30th at Fargo (two goals, one assist). In the latter game, he scored the winning goal in overtime.

Prior to his time in Waterloo, Kostelecky had played for the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League in 2020/21.

The recently completed 2021/22 season was Long Island's second year at the NCAA Division I level. The Sharks' roster last season included former Black Hawk goalie Kris Carlson, who skated in Waterloo back in 2014/15. Their inaugural roster featured another former Hawks goalie: Garrett Metcalf.
